17 months ago, at our last auction, we raised $10,225.00 with our "Raise the Paddle" to re-establish our Conway Nature Trail. The PTA has worked hard on transforming the heavily wooded, blackberry bramble area into a useable teaching space. A Special Thank You to Bill Rindal, who brought in a crew to demolish and remove all the blackberry bushes, debris and ivy. His crew made the vision and work on the nature trail a REAL vision. Also, a very Special Thank you to Kyle Frydenlund, Andy Connor, David Dent, Jason Purdue, Jake Pederson, Steve Turman for creating the beautiful gravel trails for all to enjoy. We have used $8,999.33 on building a maintenance free lifetime trek amphitheater for all classes to use for performing skits, reading poetry and learning about the great outdoors.
We have more work to do, as this has always been a multi-tiered project. There is still $1,225.67 left to use from the last donations. With these monies, we are hoping to have these projects accomplished:
1. All seating benches need to be replaced and new ones added
2. Front entrance to trailhead needs to be recreated and new material added
3. A long writing picnic table needed for outdoor creative writing and art projects
4. Fencing needs to be replaced that had broken down
5. Native plants to promote outdoor learning
We will need to raise more funds and hope for continued volunteer help to reach our goal, however, we are encouraged by the list of people who most recently signed up to help with the nature trail.
We are happy to announce that classes are using the space regularly in many different capacities. The Nature Trail is a wonderful space that helps enrich our students’ education and we Thank all of you for being so supportive. We look forward to continued movement enhancing this area.
