Dear Families,

It would be hard to miss the fact that the children are picking up on the excitement of the season! It is a good thing that we are staying very busy, continuing to learn, and having fun. Please encourage your child to stay focused and do his/her best work over the next few weeks. If you are planning on leaving town before December 16th, please let us know ahead of time so that your child can be caught up on schoolwork.

This letter is for the next three weeks.  As a reminder, you can always access our letters, supply lists and bus notes on the Conway website.

Thank you to everyone who attended the kids’ reader’s theater performances.  The children did such a nice job and it was great to see so many of you there.  A fun time was had by all!  If you were unable to make it this time, there will be plenty of other opportunities to be involved this year.  In fact...

Upcoming Dates:

  • November 30th – Spirit assembly

  • December 2nd – Early release at 11:45: End of Trimester

  • HOLIDAY PERFORMANCES: December 14th at 1:45 and 7:00 for third and fourth grade. Students perform in both the afternoon and evening holiday shows. Please plan to have your child back to school between 6:30 and 6:45 pm to prepare for the evening performance. We will meet in the classroom. S/he is encouraged to wear holiday or best clothes. Grades K-1 will perform at 12:45 and 6:00.

On Wednesday, December 14th you will find your child’s first trimester report card sent home. Please sign and return the attached signature page. You may keep the report. If you have any celebrations, questions or concerns to share, please contact your child’s teacher.

READING: Students are continuing to work on developing their reading strategies.  Please remember that fluency is not just about how fast a child can read, it’s about reading with expression.  We want the kids to read, the same way they talk.

TESTS: This week, the kids will be reassessed on the Math and Reading STAR Tests.

WRITING: Students are hard at work writing opinion papers.  They are using the OREO organization method which stands for: Opinion (stated), Reasons for your opinion, Examples to support your opinion and Opinion restated.

MATH: This week finds us finishing up our unit on 3 digit addition and subtraction and taking our assessment on Thursday.  On Monday, we begin a new unit on measurement and data.  Thank you for your continued support at home as we prepare the children for the future.

This month we will begin looking at the scientific process.  The kids will be creating an experiment to grow crystals (notice the special request below) and be observing their crystals over the coming days and making notes in their Science Journals.

Please send in a small glass or coffee cup for our December science project.  Clear is preferable to make observations easier.  We need these by this Friday!  You will get these back before break.

Coming home today is a flier about our mitten and glove exchange.  This is a fun and rewarding activity which will happen on Friday, December 16th.  Please note that names should not be on the wrapping rather just whether they are for a boy, girl or could be either.

Classrooms are once again collecting Box Tops for Education.  These help us earn money for the school.  The class that brings in the most Box Tops will receive a prize and extra recess at the end of the year.  Please send these in at any time and that you for your help.

We hope to see you at the holiday programs and that you have a wonderful and relaxing winter vacation! Thank you for all your support and please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns!

Yours in education,
