Last week’s school shooting in Florida – and all of those that came before it – have likely given all of us pause, provoking our grief and fear, and causing us to hold our loved ones a bit closer. I know that I am struggling, both as a parent and school leader, with this new reality that we face. Many of you probably also wondered about security at Conway. What kind of security systems do we have in place at Conway to keep our kids safe?
Thankfully, our Facilities Improvement Committee considered this very question and will present a solution to our school board at our Regular Board Meeting on Monday, February 26, 2018. The Committee will recommend installing electronic locks in each of our exterior doorways. This electronic locking system will allow all doors to be locked with a flick of a switch or remotely from a cell phone. Additionally, we will install emergency buttons in both the 1000 and 5000 offices that allow us to immediately dispatch law enforcement to the school.
While I understand that this may not allay all of your fears, my hope is that it will provide you with some solace, knowing that we are doing everything we can to ensure that our students and staff are safe.
